Computer applications have traditionally been created by developers who combine source code and library modules with the language vendor's runtime environment. This process for developing applications is referred to as "code-centric" development. Applications developed this way are typically difficult to maintain and to modify. In SOA applications, the runtime environment is replaced by a SOA platform while the code and library modules are replaced by services, which are a high level combination of code and library modules.
